Responsibilities
- The Histotechnologist functions as a professional who assumes responsibility and accountability for pre-analytical specimen preparation and processing; embedding, microtomy and maintaining the equipment under the direction of Histology/Pathology department leadership, Pathologist or designee.
- The position may also perform specimen grossing of surgically removed tissue under the supervision of the Pathologist.
- This job description reflects the essential function of the position and is not to be assumed that the principal functions are the only duties to be performed.
- Other duties may arise and be carried out as assigned to meet quality standards expected for patient care.
- All duties performed will be within the guidelines set forth by regulatory and hospital guidelines to maintain, manage and assure specimen integrity.
Qualifications
Job Requirements:
- Bachelors in histotechnology, laboratory science, obtained from an accredited institution, OR bachelors in biology or chemistry with education /training equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within a clinical or anatomic pathology department.
- 6 months' experience as Histotechnician.
