Summary:
This position provides advanced accessible document design and remediation services, including updating PDFs, Microsoft Office files, images, media, and online content to reach current WCAG standards. This position will work with ODA staff, UIS faculty and staff, and other DART employees on difficult-to-remediate files to ensure digital course content, files, and media are accessible for students, employees, and the public. On occasion, this position may involve extra assignments as appropriate.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Evaluates and remediates electronic documents (generally complex PDFs) using specialized software and tools such as Adobe Acrobat Pro and Equidox to ensure compliance with WCAG 2.2 and PDF/UA-1 standards.
Conducts quality assurance testing using assistive technologies to ensure compliance with accessibility standards and monitor the effectiveness of document accessibility remediation efforts.
Provides one-on-one technical support and virtual demonstrations of best-practice remediation strategies for advanced-level documents via platforms like Microsoft Teams to Digital Accessibility Remediation Team members.
Provides one-on-one consultation and guidance to faculty and staff on best practices for creating accessible documents.
Stays current with industry trends and changes in accessibility standards to continuously improve document remediation processes.
