Title: CJC Forensic Interviewer (Contracted)

Department: Children’s Justice Center

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under general direction of the Duchesne County Children’s Justice Center Director, provides forensic interview services to assist child victims of crime and witnesses in a neutral, fact-finding manner to fulfill and comply with interviewing guidelines, state statute, and national accreditation requirements. Provides training, consultation, and technical assistance to professionals. Provides and participates in peer reviews. Provides courtroom testimony.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the general supervision of the Children’s Justice Center Director

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· Conduct forensic interviews of children and vulnerable adults according to protocol, including extended interview protocol when necessary

· Gather relevant background information from parents or caregivers, law enforcement and CPS. Provides debrief after interviews with parents/caregivers, law enforcement and CPS

· Establish and maintain teamwork and cooperative working relationship with the local Multidisciplinary Team (MDT)

· Participate in MDT review of cases

· Serve as forensic interview specialist in interagency meetings

· Provide forensic interview consultation for own MDT and statewide as needed

· Provide courtroom testimony on forensic interviews conducted and expert witness testimony if applicable

· Provide forensic interview-related training and technical assistance to own MDT and statewide as needed

· Maintain knowledge of current research in the field of child forensic interviewing

· Facilitate peer review for MDT and statewide as needed

· Participate in peer review and have own interviews reviewed at least quarterly.

· Perform other duties as required

· Receives peer review on work performed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Education and experience

· Bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology, psychology, criminal justice or a related field and (3) years of related work experience preferred. Equivalent combination of education, training, and related experience may be substituted for degree

2. Knowledge, skills and abilities

· Experience in the field of child abuse trauma

· Knowledge of child development and/or experience working directly with children and families

· Commitment to ongoing cross disciplinary education and openness to supervisory feedback

· Understanding of cultural responsiveness and importance of CJC access for all children

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

· Valid Utah driver’s license

· Completion of nationally recognized NICHD forensic interview training

· Must be able to pass a criminal background check

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a typical office environment, child abuse investigation settings, and court settings. Involves exposure to emotionally distressing content, including child abuse disclosures. Requires emotional resilience, professional boundaries, and consistent self-regulation.

Pay: $50.00 per hour

Expected hours: 1.0 – 6.0 per week
