UIC Science is seeking a Science Liaison to strengthen the relationship between research teams and the local community. Responsibilities include developing short-term and long-term initiatives that reflect the work of research groups and contribute to the well-being of the community. Specific tasking will be developed closely with the Program Manager and clients. This role will also have responsibilities and tasking with UMIAQ Environmental with duties ranging from assisting with Environmental Assessments and Comprehensive Plans. Travel is required for this position, along with other duties as assigned.

- Participates in strategy and planning meetings with clients and partners to develop short-term and long-term initiatives that benefit the community.
- Communicates clearly and respectfully with various local and non-local entities and institutions while building and maintaining relationships.
- Coordinates and contributes to outreach events
- Travels to attend and assist with outreach efforts in Alaska, including Utqiaġvik and Nome.
- Reports to Program Manager.
- Drafts, edits, and finalizes environmental documents including Development Plans, Environmental Assessments, and Wildlife Interaction Plans.
- Other duties may include: wetlands monitoring, report writing, proposal writing, preparation of cost estimates, and more.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 3 years working on the North Slope and other Alaska rural communities.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrology, Civil, Chemical or Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or another Natural Science field.
- Experience in science communication
- Valid Driver’s license with an insurable driving record.
- Applicant must be willing to travel and work long hours.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); intermediate to advanced skills required.
- Strong written, organizational, and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with clients and staff at all levels.
- Experience with planning, logistics, and field work in remote environments
- Able to work remotely and ability to work self-directed
- General understanding of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act and landownership in the State.
- Strong writing, grammar, and citation skills.

- Frequent interaction with researchers, community members, educators, and partner organizations in both in-person and virtual formats.
