UI Health is seeking a Medical Office Associate to join our Specialty Care Building (SCB) Audiology department. This role will work under general supervision and perform a variety of clerical duties in the patient-service areas of the Department of Audiology.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Schedules patients for a variety of visits within Audiology and Otolaryngology, and assigns patients correctly based on department responsibility rotations and availability.
- Confirms patient appointments, and verifies/documents insurance and registration information, in accordance with hospital policy and procedures.
- Communicates with patients to triage appropriately in terms of appointment scheduling and/or the need for direct provider follow-up.
- With appropriate release, provides department-specific clinical records to specified parties.
- Serves as the face of the of the department, greeting patients (scheduled and walk-ins) and assisting as needed.
- Manages patient consent and release of Information forms; witnesses patient signature; and sends completed forms to medical records when indicated.
- Coordinates with other medical office staff to share in responsibilities and accomplish all necessary responsibilities (e.g., scheduling from internal and external referrals, transcribing orders, confirming patients with sufficient notification and via their preferred method – email, phone, text.)
- Takes the correct patient payments and documents accordingly, and is responsible for balancing the cash drawer daily when closing.
- Orders office and clinical supplies in a timely manner, maintaining appropriate inventories that do not disrupt clinical flow.
- Relay information to the patient regarding preparation for various types of exams and directs the patient to laboratories, pharmacy, and other treatment areas
- Provides administrative support to program coordinators and assistant directors on an as needed, project basis.
- Ultimately serves as a liaison for the department when communicating with patients and outside contacts – families, guardians, referring providers, students, schools, and vendors.
