Position Summary
This position supports the development of electron microscopy capabilities for brain imaging research. The role focuses on building, optimizing, and maintaining precision instrumentation essential to the electron microscopy sample preparation pipeline, ensuring the lab can produce research-quality specimens for neuroimaging studies.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in the design, development, construction, and commissioning of precision instrumentation supporting the electron microscopy sample preparation workflow.
- Troubleshoot, calibrate, and refine instruments to meet the quality standards required for electron microscopy of neural tissue.
- Develop and document fabrication protocols and quality control procedures for sample preparation tools.
- Perform complex laboratory tests to produce and quality-assess consumables used in ultramicrotomy and other EM preparation techniques.
- Provide technical drawings and schematics for instrument components as needed.
- Maintain, adjust, and repair lab equipment related to electron microscopy sample preparation.
- Maintain documentation, inventory, and records for instrumentation components and laboratory supplies, recommending purchases as needed.
- Collaborate with researchers and participate in planning sessions to ensure instrumentation meets the specific needs of ongoing brain imaging projects.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
