About The College/Unit/Department

Located in the heart of South Georgia agriculture, the Tifton Campus is home to faculty,post-docs, undergraduate students, graduate students, and staff that support programs in teaching, research, and extension. The campus encompasses 150 buildings comprising approximately 500,000 square feet, as well 5000 acres of farmland that supports campus activities.

The Tifton Campus is a critical part of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and supports a portfolio of research projects that include both traditional agriculture and cutting-edge technologies that are vital to the future of food and fiber production. These projects include, but are not limited to, research on Georgia’s main row crops: cotton, peanuts, small grains, soybeans, tobacco and vegetables. Tifton campus researchers also conduct leading research in the field of irrigation and global information systems and provides vital leadership in the University-wide Integrative Precision Agriculture initiative. The campus is also home to world-class Extension programs which translate the knowledge gained from the portfolio of research into practical, actionable advice which is critical to agents, growers, stakeholders, and Georgia residents.

Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in agronomy, weed science, animal science, environmental science, or biology is preferred.

Position Summary

The successful candidate will assist in coordinating and implementing applied extension research to support southeastern growers, focusing on agronomic management of field corn, soybeans, and small grains. The role will involve both small-plot and on-farm research trials at various locations across the state. Specifically, the candidate will play a vital role in planning and executing research for the extension grains team by managing crops throughout the growing season. This role will also be responsible for overseeing graduate students, student workers, and collecting in-field data.

This is a 12-month funded position. Continuation beyond 12 months will be contingent upon additional funding.

  • Technical and agronomic expertise, including experience with modern tractor equipment for land preparation, planting, in-field pesticide applications, and harvest

Specifically, the candidate will play a vital role in designing, planning and executing research for the extension grains team by managing crops throughout the growing season.
  • Direct daily operations of the project team by organizing personnel and equipment to assist the grains team with implementing protocols. Consider and select best management practices as applied to crop protection.
  • Direct daily operations of statewide agronomy projects, but not limited to, research operations, facilities and equipment maintenance, or personnel activities.
  • Use computers, computer-interfaced equipment, robotics or high technology industrial applications to perform work duties.
  • Conduct research or assist in conduct of research, including the collection of information and samples.
  • Monitor laboratory work to ensure compliance with set standards.
  • Oversee graduate students, student workers, and collecting in-field data.
  • Use both technical and agronomic expertise, including experience with modern tractor equipment for land preparation, planting, in-field pesticide applications, and harvest.
