The UF Health Office of Development is committed to raising money and awareness for UF Health Shands Hospital facilities to support compassionate patient care using state-of-the-art technology. We plan special events and capital campaigns to raise money in the country, state, community and on-campus, while bringing hope to families at a time when it is needed most. JOB DESCRIPTION: The student volunteer intern will receive hands-on training on aspects of development and fundraising at the Annual Giving level, assisting the Development Coordinator with projects related to: direct mail, special campaigns, employee giving, corporate partner support and the grateful patient program. With many years of combined experience, the UF Health development team is poised to help the student intern learn the valuable skills needed to work in the field of development. These skills include: developing overall knowledge of development and Annual Giving fundraising, learning about specific development efforts such as volunteer management, employee giving, direct mail, grateful patient giving, annual giving, community relations, major gifts, and more. The student intern will also have the opportunity to further develop writing and analytical skills by writing copy for annual giving and Children's Miracle Network materials and evaluating special giving campaigns and other direct marketing efforts.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Student intern will:
- Assist the Assistant Director of Annual Giving in the development and management of grateful patient direct mail and special campaigns, employee giving, and annual giving strategy.
- Assist the Annual Giving Team in the development and management of grateful patient direct mail and special campaigns, employee giving, and annual giving strategy.
- Administrative support for Annual Giving and Children's Miracle Network as needed
- Assist the Children's Miracle Network Team by supporting corporate partner efforts through campaign material preparation and any special events4.Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

•Function as a team player
•Knowledge of basic principles of AP writing style, basic design, public relations and marketing skills
•Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
•Familiarity with office equipment
LEARNING GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:
•Gain knowledge and information on the daily activities of a major fund raising office
•Participate in special event planning and execution
•Develop skills for marketing and public relations to a target audience, specifically dedicated to fund raising
•Expand the student’s portfolio
•Learn effective and efficient time management skills
•Become knowledgeable about data management software and tracking
•Learn skills necessary to ensure donor satisfaction and gift occurrence
•Participate in donor recognition and stewardship activities
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•Available 12-20hrs/week, flexible
•Familiarity with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
•Strong writing and editing skills
•Experience using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator or InDesign is a plus
•Interested in a career in fundraising or public relations, or other related area
DURATION:
1 semester, with the potential to stay longer after end-of-semester review
