The Route Laborer is responsible for assisting with the safe and efficient collection of residential and/or commercial waste and recyclable materials. The Route Laborer works as part of a collection crew, assisting the driver with servicing assigned routes, handling containers and materials, and maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
The position requires physical activity, dependable attendance, teamwork, and a strong commitment to safety. Route Laborers are expected to follow assigned routes and company procedures while providing professional and courteous service to customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the driver with the collection of waste, recyclables, and other materials along assigned routes.
- Safely handle, move, and empty residential and/or commercial containers.
- Assist with positioning containers and equipment for collection.
- Watch for pedestrians, vehicles, obstacles, and other hazards while working around collection vehicles.
- Communicate with the driver and other crew members to safely complete each route.
- Follow all company safety procedures and properly use required PPE.
- Report damaged containers, unsafe conditions, spills, or other issues to the driver or supervisor.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area around the collection vehicle.
- Assist with basic vehicle and equipment checks as needed.
- Provide courteous and professional service when interacting with customers.
- Complete assigned routes and duties efficiently and safely.
- Perform other general labor and collection-related duties as assigned.

- Previous experience in waste collection, general labor, landscaping, construction, or a similar physically demanding environment preferred.
