UCP of Sacramento and Northern California is looking for dedicated Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to empower adults with developmental disabilities to thrive in their communities. If you enjoy teaching, supporting independence, and making a real impact, we want to meet you!
What You’ll Do
As a DSP, you will provide hands‑on support and skill‑building to participants based on their individualized Person‑Centered Plans (PCPs). Your day may include:
- Supporting individuals in community, on‑site, at home, or through virtual instruction
- Facilitating daily activities, classes, and skill‑building opportunities
- Promoting independence, self‑advocacy, and informed decision‑making
- Recording daily progress and maintaining accurate, timely documentation
- Assisting with personal care needs, mobility support, and adaptive equipment
- Implementing non‑aversive behavior support strategies
- Attending required training and maintaining necessary certifications
- Transporting participants safely (agency vehicle provided)
- Ensuring safe practices, including hygiene, PPE, and program protocols
- Supporting participants during unexpected or emergency situations
What You’ll Bring
Education & Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
- CPR/First Aid certification (UCP can provide)
- DOJ fingerprint clearance
- Clear verbal & written communication
- Strong organizational abilities
- Comfort with Microsoft Office & basic technology
- Professional, approachable, participant‑focused demeanor
- Sound judgment, decision‑making, and problem‑solving abilities
Work Environment & Physical Demands
You’ll work in both community and program settings, supporting participants in active environments. Physical requirements include:
- Regular walking, bending, lifting, sitting, and assisting with mobility
- Occasional lifting/moving up to 50 lbs
- Supporting activities of daily living (toileting, feeding, dressing, etc.)
- Working in environments that may have moderate noise when participants are present
