In collaboration with Attending Oncologists, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) conducts independent and new survivorship visits and surveillance procedures. Acts as a liaison and collaborates with the multidisciplinary care team. Provides patient/family and staff education. Supports the development and revision of divisional policies and procedures. The primary focus is on providing direct and indirect patient care to manage the healthcare needs of the identified oncology patient population, including survivorship. The NP will also provide care using advanced practice skills in physical exam, diagnosis, and treatment. Participates in and/or initiates research. Additionally, the NP will provide routine care and management of breast and medical oncology patients, in collaboration with other health care team members. Responsible for providing excellent patient care, offering a high level of compassion and comfort, and discussing pain and symptom management to develop the patient's plan of care.

Demonstrates a high level of professionalism, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and leadership core competencies. Has the ability to function as part of an interdisciplinary team. Has the ability to understand the medical as well as psychosocial needs of a patient population with cancer. Will work with and evaluate patients on clinical trials.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be a graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner program.

  • California Registered Nurse (RN) license, California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license, and Furnishing License Certification.

  • National NP board certification in an aligned specialty with the practice area.

  • Current ART certification, or BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • A minimum of six (6) months of experience working as a licensed Nurse Practitioner.

  • A minimum of 2 years of RN or NP experience in an outpatient or breast oncology setting.

  • Proven ability to perform initial history, and physical examination, identify major medical problems, and formulate appropriate plans of action.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of common diagnostic tests, exams, and procedures used in a clinic setting.

  • Must understand purpose, required supplies and/or equipment, how to perform procedure accurately, infection control, an accurate documentation of medical chart.

  • Strong ability to manage own patient load.

  • Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and consistently demonstrate empathy and kindness to all staff and patients.

  • Experience working collaboratively and effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Relevant oncology certification.

  • Oncology survivorship experience.

  • Breast Oncology experience.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • This position will primarily be based at Moores Cancer Center and McGrath Outpatient Pavilion.
  • Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical. Due to advanced practice credentialing eligibility, clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years.

  • Current UCSD NPIII employees may be hired at the NPIII level pending review and approval by Health Human Resources and the UCSD Advanced Practice Council.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $167,687 - $234,649 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $80.31 - $112.38

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
