Description
The mission of the Student Health & Well-Being (SHW) cluster is to promote a culture of health and well-being for the student community, deliver equitable high-quality innovative services, incorporate inclusive approaches, and celebrate diversity, with the goal of adoption and maintenance of healthy behaviors contributing to the academic success and personal development of all students.
The UC San Diego SHW cluster, which reports through UC San Diego Health System, plays a leadership role in creating a strong and active wellness culture that enables all students to flourish in body, mind, and spirit. This includes promotion and the expansion/development of a student health and well-being center, and the transformation of existing departments, under the oversight of the executive director, into a cohesive, trans-disciplinary source of integrated wellness services. The SHW cluster includes the departments of Student Health Services (SHS), Health Promotion Services (HPS), Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), SHW Administration (ADM), and Strategic Planning, Innovation and Research (SPIR), & Student Health Assessments and Analytics (SHAA).
SHS provides primary medical care, including urgent care and support services such as laboratory, pharmacy, and x-ray to all UC San Diego undergraduate, graduate, and professional students and UC affiliates. SHS staff consists of a diverse team of physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, social workers, pharmacists, x-ray technologists, clinical laboratory scientists, medical lab assistants, optometrists, medical assistants, health educators, administrative and other healthcare professionals. SHS provides integrated clinical services to address the medical needs of individual students, as well as to foster the well-being of the students as a whole person. In addition, SHS oversees the public health needs of the campus community. SHS is accredited by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care and is fully committed to self-examination, peer review, and quality control through the utilization of data, outcome, and patient experience measurements.
Under general supervision, incumbent will be responsible and accountable for key activities associated with the UCSD Student Health Services Clinical Lab. Incumbent will assist the Lab Manager and other SHS staff with daily lab and clinic operations. Incumbent will provide administrative support in maintaining policy and procedures in accordance to CLIA and COLA requirements. Duties include scanning and organizing lab documents, manage and reconcile lab billing charges, maintain and reconcile lab inventory, manage and maintain lab metrics and assisting with patient messaging for lab appointments. Incumbent will foster patient relations and provide customer service, including greeting patients and guests, answering questions and assisting patients.
Minimum Qualifications
Annual Full Pay Range: $61,429 - $88,030 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $29.42 - $42.16

Minimum Qualifications
- Detail oriented, with proven organizational skills and ability to effectively manage time, prioritize tasks, complete projects, organize competing priorities, and effectively address complex, urgent issues as they arise.
- Strong interpersonal skills for collaborating effectively with a broad range of management, clinical and technical staff and representatives of other UCSD departments, other UC campuses and external regulatory agencies.
- Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills to manage multiple levels of information and responsibilities, to quickly assess complex problems, and to develop and implement timely and effective solutions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including knowledge of proper business formats, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
- Strong knowledge of various administrative and business software packages, and of the specialized applications for quality data management. Database management skills including querying, reporting, and document generation.
- Demonstrated ability to operate office computer and various equipment proficiently, including telephone, printer, copier, scanner and FAX machines. Thorough knowledge of business software, specialized applications and systems used in behavioral health centers / clinics. Demonstrated experience and competency with standard business equipment, computer technologies and a variety of software including system and networking software, Microsoft Office suite, email and a variety of web-based programs and browsers, with the willingness and ability to update and increase skills as needed to meet the goals of SHS and SHW. Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint and One Drive) and Zoom as well as a working knowledge of Qualtrics and Canva.
- Excellent reading and comprehension skills and ability to analyze, understand and interpret complex materials, policies, and documents in a clinic environment.
- Strong skills required to effectively convey clinical and technical information both verbally and in writing and to produce high quality reports and documentation.
- Demonstrated experience interpreting complex policies, procedures, and regulatory information and developing comprehensive policies, procedures, tools, guidelines and forms.
- Cultural competency in working with diverse populations including excellent communication skills and advocacy skills.

- Knowledge of medical terminology and regulations regarding patients medical information and privacy. Experience working in an academic and/or patient care setting. Experience in health care setting related to patient privacy and/or protection of confidential information (including protected health information) including state and federal regulations such as FERPA and HIPAA
- Ability to use discretion, and maintain confidentiality and comply with all requirements in use of computer systems and access to any and all patient, student, employee and University data, in electronic and hard copy formats, in compliance with University, state and federal guidelines, including, but not limited to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

- As appropriate, submit incident reports into the UCSD SHW Incident Report System, RL Datix or current system in use, to report near-misses, process problems or patient or employee injury events. Attend required trainings and refreshers for use and proper steps to follow.
- Complete and pass test/quiz for all required training assigned by UCOP, UCSD and SHW on a timely basis.
- Demonstrated experience in using electronic medical records and understanding of medical record management.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of EPIC.
- Must complete initial mandatory health requirements, and current clear TB test results and flu vaccination. In the absence of immunization records, titer or blood test will be required to determine if other immunizations are needed.
- TB screening is required, following COEM schedule.
- Flu and COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption are required, following UC protocol.
- Must be able to work overtime, various hours and locations, based on clinical and/or business needs.
- Occasionally required to work overtime, weekend or evening hours.
- Pre-employment physical required.
