Cybersecurity IOT/OMT Technical Analyst

Job Summary

This position's primary role is securing biomedical devices and IoMT (Internet of Medical Things) in the UC Davis Health enterprise. Working with partners to design and implement secure device architecture, report on embedded system vulnerabilities, secure network design, and testing. It will be responsible for integrating cybersecurity principles directly into biomedical device operations, risk reporting, and management, along with incident response.

This is a critical role interfacing with biomedical engineering teams, clinical informatics, IT security, incident response, and device manufacturers.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

• Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience/training
• 5 years of cybersecurity operations/engineering experience with a focus on healthcare or IoMT devices
• Practical experience with security controls in segmented healthcare networks (e.g., NAC solutions like Cisco ISE, firewall policies for medical VLANs)
• Experience with vulnerability assessment tools and interpreting vulnerability data for medical devices
• Experience working with clinical engineering teams and biomedical equipment management platforms.
• Previous participation in cybersecurity aspects of medical device development lifecycle (e.g., secure design, risk analysis, vulnerability reporting)
• Strong understanding of biomedical device architectures (e.g., RTOS, Linux-based embedded systems, proprietary medical communication protocols)
• Working knowledge of EHR system integrations and device interoperability standards (DICOM, HL7, FHIR)
• Hands-on experience with security testing tools:
• Firmware analysis (e.g., Binwalk, Ghidra, IDA Pro)
• Protocol analyzers (e.g., Wireshark, Scapy)
• Penetration testing tools (e.g., Burp Suite, Metasploit)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Deep familiarity with healthcare security and privacy frameworks (e.g., HIPAA, FDA, NIST CSF)
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Certifications: GIAC GICSP, CISSP, OSCP, CEH, HCISPP, or comparable
• Master’s degree or advanced training in Embedded Systems Security, Medical Device Cybersecurity, or related specialization.
