Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist – Echo Lab

Job Summary

The Echo Lab uses ultrasound systems manufactured by different vendors. It is expected that the Ultrasound Technologist (UT) becomes proficient in its use, maintains level of proficiency of all echocardiography equipment and tools used. All echoes performed take place in acute care and outpatient care settings. This position requires certification as an RDCS/RCS. The UT is also responsible for maintaining a high standard of medical ethics at all times. The UT is self-motivated to increase the level of understanding and knowledge of the field, understanding pathophysiology, learning new procedures as they evolve, and follow established examination standards that adhere to the policies and procedures of UCDH and IAC. Clinical instruction of cardiac ultrasound students and/or Cardiac Fellows are expected and required per the Echo Lab Supervisor’s discretion. Participation in lab sponsored events/demonstrations as requested. #CA-SB

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • American Registration for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification with applicable credential [e.g., Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS), Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT, etc.], or equivalent certification
  • American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR
  • High School diploma or equivalent work experience / training
  • 1-2 years of experience as a Cardiac Sonographer in an acute care setting or have successful completion of UC Davis Echocardiography Externship.
  • Ability to perform all requested 2-D /3D, stress echo examinations as ordered by the attending physician.
  • Ability to perform and understands advanced cardiac analytics: cardiac mechanics (strain), 3D/4Dvolumes and analytics as they become commercially available.
  • Have working knowledge of transesophageal echocardiograms, and ultrasound guided transcatheter therapies and structural heart procedures.
  • Ability to effectively operate ultrasound equipment. Have a working knowledge of different ultrasound systems (i.e., Siemens SC 2000, Philips-Epiq, CX50, iE33).

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes) will be strictly prohibited on any UC Davis owned or leased property, indoors and outdoors, including parking lots and residential space.

This position is Monday through Friday, with varying hours between 6:30 am and 6:00 pm weekend rotation and all holidays. Availability for mandatory overtime in the medical center and assignment to perform echo procedures at the Primary Care Network (PCN) clinics is required and may be requested.
