Summary of Job Duties:
The Phlebotomist supports all sections of the Clinical Outpatient Laboratory through proper phlebotomy techniques as well as proper specimen accessioning, processing and related activities. Use of correct blood collection tubes, ordering correct test from requisitions. Match identifiers to information on requisition and labels. Obtain blood from patient using proper phlebotomy techniques for clinical or medical testing, transfusions, donation, or research. Resolve specimen and patient problems as they arise. Follows all UAMS Department of Pathology Policies and Procedures for blood collection. Obtains patient specimens at an acceptable rate. This position also assists with access coordinator responsibilities including opening/closing of clinic and will participate in the training of new employees.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED, plus 2 years of laboratory experience
- Two or more years working in a clinical laboratory or as a medical assistant
- Superior customer service skills, clear communication skills, and the ability to show empathy and respect for patients' privacy and autonomy.
- Excellent patient interaction skills in person and by phone.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
Responsibilities:
- Uses venipuncture to obtain blood specimens from patients
- Performs various testing procedures according to established laboratory procedures
- Prepares urine and stool samples for laboratory processing
- Monitors and maintains an adequate amount of patient care supply inventory
- Serves as a resource for the department
- Performs other duties as assigned
