The United States Space Command (USSPACECOM) in Colorado Springs, CO is searching for a Non-Supervisory Senior Data Scientist for the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO). Come join our amazing team who helps to ensure there is never a day without space!

Description of Position: Serves as the USSPACECOM Subject Matter Expert and Senior Data Scientist, overseeing the development, management, fielding, and sustainment of the USSPACECOM data ecosystem. Provides strategic analysis and technical expertise to the Command CDAO and the CDAO team on data governance, application development, AI/ML, and related policy matters.

Position Responsibilities:

• Advises the USSPACECOM Chief Digital & Artificial Intelligence Officer on USSPACECOM’s data governance, process improvement, and the latest developments in artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML).
• Supports planning and capability development for the USSPACECOM data ecosystem to ensure AI/ML capabilities meet operational and strategic needs.
• Analyzes complex data and technology issues; assesses the potential impact of emerging technologies; and provides recommendations to inform leadership decisions.
• Provides technical advice to CDAO projects, including evaluating new capabilities, code reviews, and applying AI/ML where it can improve mission outcomes.
• Represents the USSPACECOM CDAO at meetings and working groups with government agencies, industry partners, and interagency organizations.
• Prepares technical reports and status updates that communicate progress, requirements, risks, and resource needs to leadership.
• Coordinates with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, identifies barriers, and supports collaboration to keep projects on track and achieve required outcomes.

Desired Skills/Expertise:

• Expertise in data science, data architecture, data governance, AI/ML, and related technologies.
• Experience developing, evaluating, integrating, or sustaining data and AI/ML capabilities that support operational, mission, or enterprise requirements.
• Experience using Python and SQL for data analysis, automation, data engineering, machine learning, or software development.
• Deep knowledge of application development in Maven Smart System.
• Experience with data architectures, data pipelines, application programming interfaces, analytics tools, and enterprise data platforms.
• Ability to assess emerging technologies and provide recommendations addressing feasibility, mission benefit, implementation risks, resource requirements, and tradeoffs.
• Experience reviewing code, evaluating technical solutions, and providing constructive feedback on software, data, or AI/ML development efforts.
• Demonstrated ability to provide clear strategic analysis and technical recommendations to senior leaders and other nontechnical audiences.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, including preparing technical reports, executive summaries, briefings, decision papers, and status updates.
• Experience representing an organization in meetings, working groups, technical exchanges, conferences, or forums with government, industry, and interagency partners.
• Ability to coordinate cross-functional teams and stakeholders, identify and resolve barriers, and advance projects without direct supervisory authority.
• Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.
• Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.

Conditions of Employment:

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI Security Clearance.
• Position requires drug testing.
• Occasional travel away from regular duty location may be required.
• May be required to work irregular duty hours including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.

**Value of Position (VOP): If your current basic salary is within the band, but above the stated VOP, your basic salary will not be reduced if you are selected for the position.
