Summary

The incumbent is responsible for providing medical services to urgent care patients of the VANIHCS. He/she is responsible for the clinical care and management of Veterans within the Urgent Care department - Marion IN - NIHCS. The function in Medical Service on a Fee for Service Basis. Compensation will be based on service block performed.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position - you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Basic Requirements

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine
  • The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed
  • Current - full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State - Territory - or Commonwealth of the United States - or in the District of Columbia
  • Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training - approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
  • (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) - b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) -OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States) - which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences
  • Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as ""Physician Resident Providers"" (PRPs)
  • PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e. - not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis
  • PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged
  • rather - they are to have a ""scope of practice"" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision
  • Additionally - surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English

Duties

  • The physician providers treatment modalities - patient assessment - care planning and coordination
  • Responsibilities will also include clinical duties and assignments - Code team (as needed) - and implementation of performance improvements
  • Administrative: -Works closely with the Urgent Care nurses or other assigned staff member(s)
  • -Adheres to all information security and privacy measures set by VHA and the Medical Center
  • -Identifies individual professional learning needs and participates in formal programs - workshops - seminars - conferences - as well as self-directed learning activities - completes facility wide mandatory education yearly
  • -Responsible for timely and accurate - Emergency Department Integrated Software(EDIS) entry and compliance
  • Clinical: -Ensures a safe - efficient - high-quality healthcare received within the department
  • -This includes - but is not limited to initial evaluation - documentation - and critical care medicine consultation - admission history and physical - and formulation of a plan for continued care
  • - Entry of admission orders and medication reconciliation
  • Timely entry of Emergency Department Integration Software (EDIS)
  • Resolves discrepancies of all EDIS related issues and/or fallouts
  • Continuously monitors EDIS compliance to ensure 100% compliance within all areas
  • - Demonstrates sound decision-making skills - both clinical and administrative - which bring credit to the profession and serve to enhance the distinctive and contributory role of physicians
  • - Examine and evaluate each patient soon after admission to the UC and notify the admitting physician of assessment and recommendations
  • Performs and documents of subsequent evaluation of all patients in the UC
  • - Works collaboratively with other services to improve Urgent Care operations
  • - Daily care of patients also entails regular interaction with nursing - coordination of consultations and care and facilitation of diagnostic studies and therapeutic procedures
  • - Other vital roles include communication with patients and their families - patient education - discharge planning and communication with outpatient providers - arranging follow up - preparing discharge instructions - medication reconciliation and discharge summaries - and ensuring communication during hand-offs of care
  • - Sign out to the oncoming physician to assure an informed transition of care
  • coordinate with the admitting physician and consultants to organize diagnostic and treatment plans for all patients
  • - Provides quality patient-centered patient care to patients presenting to the ER/UC
  • - Maintains clinical privileges in Emergency Room/Urgent Care - in order to fulfill the duties of his/her assignment within Emergency Room/Urgent Care Services
  • Pay: Payment is processed per service block performed Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Work Schedule: Urgent Care / Medical Officer of the Day (MOD) will be requested to work an 8 to 12 hour shift between the hours of 7AM and midnight.

Salary : $150 - $1,600
