Summary

The position is located at a Tennessee Valley Health Care System in Nashville - TN. The purpose of the position is to perform administrative functions that include administration - human resources management - budget and finance - management analysis - office support services - document control - logistics - and a variety of related administrative matters in support of the Chief Nurse(s) Nursing Services.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the GS-9 grade level - applicants must meet one of the following: Specialized Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-7) in the Federal Service that has given you the particular knowledge - skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of an Administrative Officer - Nursing Services - and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is experience providing a variety of administrative management services essential to the direction and operation of a department or organization pertaining to personnel management - procurement and contract administration; ensuring compliance with established policies - practices and procedures; analyzing and measuring the effectiveness of program management and work processes; and utilizing various Microsoft Office applications (i.e. - Excel - Access - Word - etc.). NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title - duties - month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. -OR- Education: Successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree or two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. - J.D. - if related - that demonstrates the knowledge - skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the Administrative Officer - Nursing Services position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited in an accredited college or university. NOTE: Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation. -OR- Combination: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education (beyond the first year) and specialized experience - as described above - which may be used to meet total experience requirements for this grade level. The education portion must include graduate courses that demonstrates the knowledge - skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the Administrative Officer - Nursing Services position. Duties

  • ***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION - YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties include - but are not limited to - the following: Assists in the overall administrative management for the organization
  • interpreting administrative policies - developing and/or implementing local policies - defining administrative requirements - and/or providing advice to top management on related issues
  • Performs administrative management requirements for a medium-sized organization with varied functions
  • Applies new policies - provides advice on requirements - maintains administrative systems and prepares administrative paperwork
  • Oversees a variety of administrative programs - including the distribution dissemination of incoming mail - internal controls - records management - publication and forms
  • Directs administrative support services to ensure that inquiries - correspondence and actions for the area of responsibility are addressed appropriately
  • Develops information papers and correspondence on wide variety of administrative functions
  • Assists in identifying and resolving process issues which may affect the service's ability to meet program goals and target performance measures
  • Assists in preparing and evaluating future scheduling projections and anticipating future workload requirements to forecast appropriate staffing levels
  • Provides administrative planning and oversight for a variety of programs to ensure survey-readiness and compliance with VA initiative and accreditation bodies such as The Joint Commission - OIG - Long-Term Care Institute
  • Coordinates with the Nurse Recruitment Office - Nurse Managers and Human Resources for the recruitment of nursing personnel
  • Serves as initial contact for applicants - answering questions and providing information about the position - coordinating interviews of potential applicants - developing performance-based interview questions and scoring guidelines - convening interview panels - serving on panels as appropriate/needed - summarizing recommendations regarding recruitment - completing all actions in USA staffing - and providing updated information to management regarding recruitment status
  • Prepares budget projections based on studies of past expenditures - knowledge of the team's requirements - changes which have occurred in workload - and future goals
  • Prepares detailed requests for Resource Management Committee consideration (new position - vice position) that include sufficient data and justification to warrant approval
  • Collects - develops - and analyzes cost data relative to Nursing operations: maintenance of current DSS data - labor mapping - productivity measures - nursing hours per patient day (NHPPD) - nursing hours per encounters - overtime hours - and paid-leave hours
  • Collaborates with Fiscal service to gain a working knowledge of reimbursement issues - development of cost/benefit proposals for special program needs - and serving as advisor to the Chief Nurse(s) in this area
  • Performs other duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday through Friday from 8:00am - 4:30pm - or based on the needs of the agency

Salary : $61,722 - $80,243
