About the Office

The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma (USAOKE) serves as the chief federal law enforcement office in the Eastern District of Oklahoma and is accountable to the citizens of the Eastern District for pursuing justice, ensuring public safety, enforcing the law, protecting the interests of the United States, and exercising stewardship of the government's resources. The Eastern District is comprised of 26 counties in eastern and southern Oklahoma, ranging from southeast of Tulsa, Oklahoma to the Texas border and from the Arkansas border to Carter County on the west.

Job Description

Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) in the Civil Divison are responsible for legal research and writing, directing investigations, case development, and case presentation and resolution. Defensive practice areas include personal injury and wrongful death, employment discrimination, constitutional torts, medical malpractice, and immigration. Affirmative practice areas include the investigation and prosecution of civil actions under statutes such as the False Claims Act, Controlled Substances Act, and Americans with Disabilities Act. Our Civil Division represents the United States, its agencies, officers, and employees in civil actions in the Eastern District of Oklahoma. To be an effective Civil AUSA, the successful candidate must possess excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to work closely with federal, state, local and tribal agencies.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1* year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.

United States citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Desire to work as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District of Oklahoma, with civil prosecution experience.

Prior experience in medical malpractice and employment discrimination.
Possess excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to work closely with federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies.
Have superior research, writing and oral advocacy abilities, strong academic credentials, and good judgment.
Intelligence and aptitude, measured by professional experience/growth potential, academic record, the writing sample, and any interview performance.
Commitment to excellence, strong work ethic and drive, as may be demonstrated through successful team work, leadership, obstacles overcome and personal, academic and professional achievement.
Sound judgment and good character.
Balance, both professionally and personally, in terms of interests and abilities.

Salary

Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $76,748 to $150,000 which includes 17.06% locality pay.
