Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience performing the following duties 1) Instructing security personnel on specific access control operational tasks and job techniques; 2) Reviewing identification cards, badges or passes to allow access to a secured area; 3) Protecting the health, safety, privacy or best interest of the public, staff or others who may be at risk; and 4) Preparing daily reports, journals, logs or records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

- Control access to restricted areas on the installation.
- Ensure guard coverage is provided to assigned patrol areas.
- Serve as the Desk Control Officer.
- Complete daily reports of employees for supervisor review.
Conditions of employment
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This is a mission essential position and may require shift work and/or work on rotating shifts to provide coverage in the evenings, weekends, holidays and other situations.
- Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
- Must undergo pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter as this is testing designated position (TDP).
- Occasional traveling may be require to attend workshops, training, or seminars.
- Must pass periodic medical examination (physical, emotional and mental stability, etc.).
- Must successfully complete periodic physical ability test requirements.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
- Must meet all mandatory requirements of AR 190-56.
- Required to meet proficiency requirements in specialized weapons and unarmed self-defense.
- Must be qualified and certified in the use of chemical aerosol irritants.
- Must successfully complete CPR certification and First Aid.
- Must maintain requirements of Individual Reliability Program (IRP) IAW AR 190-56.
- This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
- This position requires work call backs and/or emergency overtime when required.
- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer such as protective clothing or gear such as chemical protection masks, gloves, and other associated equipment.
