Duties

  • Analyze computer-generated test data to isolate and identify missile system and subsystem malfunctions.
  • Utilize knowledge in electronics principle and theory, particularly for use in troubleshooting.
  • Repair defective electronic units by replacing or tuning components to meet mission-critical specification requirements.
  • Prepare computer test data for electronic transmission to a central data bank to support trend analysis of missile degradation.
  • Perform computer-controlled tests on missile assemblies to verify system performance and identify specification failures.
  • Disassemble missile systems into component parts for cleaning, inspection, and transport to designated test areas.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctioning guidance and stability loops using electronic theory and schematics to isolate system faults.
  • Provide recommendations for resolving operating conditions or system problems.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security clearance.
  • Business travel/temporary duty (TDY) may be required up to 15% of the time.
  • Mobility Agreement required to assigned areas world-wide to support the mission.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968; persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible.
  • Ammunition certification in accordance with AMC-R 350-4 is required within one year of appointment.
  • Arms, Ammunition, and Explosives Screening in accordance with AR 190-11 required initially and annually.
  • Pre-employment and annual physical examinations required.
  • Position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • Position requires the incumbent to maintain a state driver’s license.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Performing routine, computer-controlled tests on missile components and subsystems to gather and record performance data; 2) Assisting senior technicians in troubleshooting electronic systems by using standard test equipment to check voltages, frequencies, and signal continuity ; and 3) Replacing malfunctioning electronic components and modules based on established maintenance procedures and diagnostic results. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or electronics technology. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification).

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
