Job Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in providing assistance and support to individuals with disabilities or special needs. The DSP will work closely with each child in various settings, including group homes and home care environments, ensuring that their physical, emotional, and social needs are met.
Responsibilities
- MUST BE WILLING TO PROVIDE INCONTINENT CARE TO CHILDREN/ADOLESCENTS
- Provide direct support to individuals with disabilities, assisting with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication administration.
- Implement individualized care plans tailored to each client's unique needs and preferences.
- Assist clients in participating in community activities and social events to promote engagement and inclusion.
- Ensure a clean and safe living environment by performing light housekeeping duties as needed.
- Maintain accurate documentation of client progress, incidents, and any changes in behavior or health status while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to clients, fostering positive relationships built on trust and respect.
- Assist with heavy lifting when necessary for client mobility or transportation.
- Respond promptly to emergencies and provide first aid when required.
Skills
- CPR certification is required
- 32 hour Medication Aide training is required
- Experience with austistic children or working in a group home setting is highly desirable.
- CNA certificationn is a pkus
- Knowledge of direct support practices and home care techniques is essential.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting tasks safely and effectively.
- Proficiency in medication administration protocols and practices.
- Strong cleaning skills to maintain a hygienic environment for clients.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, and team members.
