Summary: This position is responsible for the efficient and safe operation of the CAS Forklift throughout the production day.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Remove cages from semi for slaughter
- Place on dumping rollers
- Remove emptied cages and return to semi
- Handle birds according to departmental Animal Welfare Standards
- Responsible for daily pre-trip inspection of forklift and minor repairs throughout production day
- Other duties as assigned
- Must be able to successfully complete fork lift drivers training
- Ability to operate forklift efficiently, within safety guidelines, in all weather conditions
- Ability to work safely and effectively around moving machinery
- Ability to perform a daily safety inspection of the equipment and record data
- Basic maintenance skills required
- Must adhere to CAS Department Animal Welfare Standards and practices
- Willingness to work overtime and be called into work for emergency situations as required
- Must be able to work independently to make required decisions
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Experience in a meat processing facility preferred
- Forklift driving experience preferred
- Must be able to communicate effectively
- Rarely (0-1 hrs.): climb or work at protected heights (stepping up into equipment), kneel, crawl, squat, crouch or balance, lift/carry (up to 45 lbs.), push/pull (up to 45 lbs.), reach above shoulder height
- Occasionally (1-3 hrs.): lift/carry (up to 10 lbs.), stand/walk
- Continuously (6-8 hrs.): use feet in repetitive movement to operate foot controls, simple/firm grasping, fine manipulation/operating controls, sit while operating equipment, bend/stoop, twist/turn, work in or around moving machinery, exposed to marked changes in temperature working outdoors, around and amongst poultry dust, odor and blood, talk and hear, use 20/20 vision with or without corrective lenses
