Position Overview:
Tyrrell County Schools is seeking a passionate and dedicated Multilingual Learners (MLL) Teacher to support the language development and academic success of multilingual learners across all grade levels. This district-wide position will serve students at Tyrrell Elementary School, Columbia Middle (grades 7–8), and Columbia Early College High School. The ideal candidate will collaborate with school staff, families, and the district team to provide high-quality instruction, aligned with North Carolina standards and WIDA English Language Development Standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide direct instruction to Multilingual Learners (MLLs) using research-based strategies tailored to students’ language proficiency levels.

Deliver both push-in and pull-out services as appropriate to support student learning.

Collaborate with classroom teachers to modify content and assessments to meet the language and academic needs of ELs.

Conduct initial and annual assessments of language proficiency using required tools (e.g., WIDA Screener, ACCESS for ELLs).

Monitor MLL progress, maintain accurate records, and participate in MLL Plan development and reviews.

Support the implementation of federal and state MLL requirements, including documentation, parent communication, and program compliance.

Serve as a resource for teachers and staff on language acquisition, instructional strategies, and cultural responsiveness.

Foster communication between schools and multilingual families, including coordination of translated documents and interpretation services when needed.

Participate in district and school-level professional development and team meetings.

Travel between school sites as needed.
Qualifications:
Required:

Valid North Carolina teaching license with ESL (English as a Second Language) certification (or eligibility to obtain).

Strong understanding of second language acquisition and culturally responsive pedagogy.

Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Willingness to travel between multiple school sites.
Preferred:

Previous experience working with English Learners in a K–12 setting.

Experience with WIDA standards and assessments.

Proficiency in a language other than English is a plus.
Working Conditions:
