Substitute Teacher – Ongoing

Tyrrell County Schools is always accepting applications from dedicated individuals interested in serving as substitute teachers. Our substitutes play an essential role in maintaining consistent student learning when regular teachers are unavailable.

Minimum Qualifications

To be eligible to substitute teach in Tyrrell County Schools, applicants must meet one of the following:

Option 1: Current Teaching License (any state)

• Hold a valid teaching license

• Complete the online application in our Applicant Tracking System

• Upload the following to your application:

  • A copy of your current teaching license

  • Signed background check authorization form

Option 2: No Current Teaching License

• Must be at least two years beyond high school graduation

• Must hold a high school diploma or equivalent

• Successfully complete the Effective Substitute Teacher Training Course through APP Garden (approximately $49)

• Upload the following to your application:

  • Certificate of completion from the APP Garden training

  • Signed background check authorization form

Next Steps

Once all application steps and eligibility requirements have been completed, candidates will be submitted to the Tyrrell County Board of Education for approval. If approved, you will receive instructions for completing the required employment paperwork to be entered into our payroll system. Please note that all documentation, including a valid NC Health Certificate, must be received by the Human Resources Department before you can begin working as a substitute for Tyrrell County Schools.
