Transportation Project Engineer
Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States
Compensation: $100,000 - $140,000
A well-established civil engineering consultancy with a strong presence across Illinois is seeking a Transportation Project Engineer to join their Wisconsin office. The firm has a proven track record delivering transportation, roadway, highway, and municipal infrastructure projects for state and local government clients.
This is a varied role where you will operate as a Project Manager on smaller assignments and Project Engineer on larger schemes, giving you real ownership of projects and the chance to develop client-facing and commercial skills alongside technical design work.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform roadway and transportation design for WisDOT and municipal projects
- Prepare construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates
- Coordinate with clients, local agencies, utility companies, and internal project teams
- Develop roadway geometry, drainage layouts, traffic control plans, and utility coordination packages
- Support projects from planning and preliminary design through construction
- Assist with project management, scheduling, budgeting, and client communication
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including structures, water resources, and construction services
- Participate in client meetings, project presentations, and business development efforts
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
- PE license in Wisconsin or ability to obtain through reciprocity
- 5 years of transportation engineering experience
- Experience with WisDOT and local municipal roadway projects
- Strong understanding of Wisconsin transportation design standards
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Experience preparing PS&E packages
- Strong communication and project coordination skills
