At TX-STAR Speech Language Services, we partner with school districts across Texas to support students with diverse learning needs. We are currently hiring Teachers for the Visually Impaired (VI) for school-based opportunities in the Houston area.
This role is ideal for educators who are passionate about supporting students with visual impairments and ensuring they have access to meaningful, inclusive educational experiences.
What You’ll Do
As a Teacher for the Visually Impaired, you will provide specialized instruction and support to help students access curriculum and develop independence.
Key responsibilities include:
Conduct assessments to determine students’ strengths and areas of need
Provide individualized instruction tailored to students with visual impairments
Prepare and adapt instructional materials into accessible formats (e.g., Braille, large print, assistive technology)
Support the implementation of IEP goals and accommodations
Collaborate with teachers, staff, and multidisciplinary teams
Consult with families and school personnel to support student success
Assist students in developing independence and functional skills
Maintain accurate and compliant documentation
What You’ll Need
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas teaching certification
Certification as a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (VI/TVI)
Knowledge of assessment tools for evaluating visual functioning
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Ability to support diverse learners and manage student behavior effectively
