What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research Scientist, Cell Biology position at Two River?
Title: Research Scientist, Cell Biology
Company: Stealth Portfolio Company
Location: Boston, MA
Reports to: Director, Discovery Research
About Our Company:
We are a stealth-mode biotechnology company developing next generation complex biologics, with an initial focus on high-impact targets in immunology. Our mission is to rapidly design and globally develop highly differentiated therapies for patients with life-threatening diseases.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a creative, motivated and solutions-oriented cell biologist to join the discovery research team and generate the experimental biology that powers an integrated, AI-assisted discovery engine. Working at the bench and in close partnership with our computational colleagues, this individual will design and execute cell-based assays that characterize multi-specific biologics against targets in autoimmune disease and immuno-oncology, and will produce the high-quality, structured data that closes our “lab-in-a-loop”—the iterative cycle in which computational design informs experiments and experimental results refine the next round of design. The role suits a hands-on scientist with deep experience in primary immune cell biology and functional assay development who is eager to work at the interface of wet-lab biology and computation.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design, optimize and execute cell-based assays to characterize the activity, potency and selectivity of multi-specific biologics, including T-cell–redirected cytotoxicity and co-culture killing assays.
• Establish and maintain primary human immune cell systems (e.g., T cells, PBMCs) and relevant cell line models for functional and mechanistic studies.
• Develop quantitative readouts of immune activation and function—flow cytometry, cytokine profiling, high-content imaging—to define mechanism of action and support candidate selection.
• Generate structured, well-annotated datasets and maintain rigorous electronic lab notebook records so results flow cleanly back into computational models and decision-making.
• Partner with computational and protein engineering colleagues to translate design hypotheses into testable experiments and to interpret results in the context of ongoing design cycles.
• Troubleshoot assays, implement new techniques, and contribute to a strong culture of experimental rigor and reproducibility.
• Present data and interpretations in team and cross-functional research meetings.
• Maintain high standards of laboratory safety.
Essential Qualifications:
• PhD in immunology, cell biology or a related discipline with 2 years of relevant experience, or an MS/BS with 5 years of industry experience.
• Hands-on expertise culturing and manipulating primary human immune cells and cell line models.
• Strong experience in flow cytometry and cell-based functional assays (e.g., cytotoxicity, proliferation, activation, cytokine release).
• Demonstrated ability to develop and optimize assays independently and to execute with rigor and attention to detail.
• Excellent record-keeping using an ELN and a collaborative, proactive approach to teamwork.
Ideal Qualifications:
• Experience characterizing multi-specific biologics; familiarity with T-cell engagers (TCE) or other complex modalities is a plus.
• Experience with in vitro models of autoimmune disease and/or immuno-oncology.
• Comfort working in a data-rich, computationally integrated environment and enthusiasm for AI-assisted discovery.
• Experience with high-content imaging or high-throughput assay formats.
Equal Opportunity:
Two River is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to building a team with a range of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives, and we evaluate all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, status as a protected veteran, genetic information, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law. We provide reasonable accommodations to applicants and employees with disabilities.
