The Lab Operations & Vivarium Specialist plays a key role in supporting both laboratory and vivarium (laboratory animal facility) operations. This position manages inventory and supply logistics, assists with animal facility upkeep, and helps ensure a safe, organized, and efficient work environment. The role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative approach to supporting lab and animal care teams.

Job Description
The Lab Operations & Vivarium Specialist plays a key role in supporting both laboratory and vivarium (laboratory animal facility) operations. This position manages inventory and supply logistics, assists with animal facility upkeep, and helps ensure a safe, organized, and efficient work environment. The role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative approach to supporting lab and animal care teams.
What You’ll Be Doing
1- Vivarium Operations (Laboratory Animal Facility)
- Prepare supplies for daily use within the vivarium.
- Clean and sanitize animal caging supplies (note: disposable caging system), rooms, and equipment according to schedules and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records of animal care and facility cleaning tasks.
- Report any animal health or facility concerns promptly to the appropriate staff.
- Track and organize laboratory and vivarium supplies, ensuring items are labeled, stored, and reordered as needed to maintain adequate stock levels.
- Receive, inspect, and store deliveries, including animal shipments; keep accurate records of inventory and supply usage.
- Prepare and package outgoing shipments, including sensitive materials, following established procedures and regulations.
- Communicate supply needs and inventory changes to lab and vivarium teams.
- Help with routine maintenance of lab equipment by tracking service schedules and reporting issues.
- Support BSL2-level reagent handling, including labeling, aliquoting, storage, and basic logistics.
- Assist with safe disposal of laboratory and animal facility waste, following all guidelines and compliance requirements.
- Participate in lab and vivarium safety training and help maintain a clean, organized environment.
- Work closely with lab and vivarium staff to understand and meet operational needs.
- Train new team members on inventory, supply, and vivarium procedures as needed.
- Foster a positive, collaborative work environment by communicating clearly and supporting team goals.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college or relevant experience in a laboratory preferred
- Must have at least 1 year experience with inventory, including receiving, inspecting, and stocking goods, processing Goods Receipts, managing Stock Transport Orders, and maintaining accurate inventory records; SAP preferred
- Strict adherence to SOPs, Institutional and AAALAC standards, state and federal laws
- Able to work independently in a fast-paced, cross-functional, and collaborative environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational abilities
- Comfortable lifting and moving supplies (up to 40 lbs)
- Comfortable working in a laboratory and laboratory animal setting
- Ability to walk and stand for several hours per day
- Direct contact with laboratory animal allergens (e.g., urine, feces) while handling dirty supplies
