Responsibilities
- Assist the head coach in planning and implementing daily practice sessions and training programs for track and field athletes.
- Provide instruction and guidance in various track and field events, focusing on skill development, technique, and performance improvement.
- Monitor and evaluate athlete performance during practices and competitions, providing constructive feedback and encouragement.
- Help organize and coordinate team events, including meets, practices, and team-building activities.
- Foster a positive and inclusive team culture, promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect among athletes.
- Communicate regularly with athletes and their families regarding training schedules, meet information, and athlete progress.
- Assist with the recruitment and retention of student-athletes, promoting the benefits of participation in track and field.
- Ensure compliance with all school policies, district regulations, and governing body rules regarding athletics.
- Attend coaching clinics and professional development opportunities to enhance coaching skills and knowledge of the sport.
Requirements
- Previous coaching experience in track and field or significant participation at the high school, collegiate, or club level.
- Strong knowledge of track and field events, training techniques, and athlete development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the head coach, athletic staff, and school administration.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to the start of the season).
- Availability to work evenings and weekends during the track season, including practices and competitions.
- A commitment to the academic success and well-being of student-athletes.
Evaluation: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the requirements stated in the athletic manual and with the board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The employment “at will” policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and approved by the Board of Trustees of District 411.
