What are the responsibilities and job description for the AP Tutor (STEM Priority) position at Tutor Doctor North County San Diego?
We’re hiring experienced and motivated AP Tutors to support high school students enrolled in Advanced Placement courses, with a strong need for STEM subjects including AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Pre-Calculus, and/or AP Calculus (AB/BC). Tutors who can support any AP subjects are highly encouraged to apply.
This is an in-person, part-time tutoring role working with students who are motivated but need expert guidance to master advanced coursework and prepare for AP exams.
What You’ll Do
Provide 1:1 tutoring for AP-level students in the students homes
Support coursework, problem-solving, and AP exam preparation
Break down complex, college-level concepts into clear explanations
Help students build strong study habits, time management, and test strategies
Track progress and provide session feedback to families and our team via session reports
What We’re Looking For
Strong content knowledge in one or more AP subjects (especially STEM)
Prior experience tutoring or teaching AP or high school-level courses preferred
Ability to clearly explain advanced concepts at an appropriate pace
Reliable transportation for in-person sessions
Professional, dependable, and prepared
Minimum 3-month commitment
Evening availability preferred (after school and early evenings)
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or coursework in a STEM or related academic field
Current or former AP teacher, graduate student, or advanced undergraduate preferred
Familiarity with AP curriculum and exam structure
Ability to tutor multiple AP subjects is a strong plus
