Job Summary
The Head Volleyball Coach is responsible for leading, managing, and developing all aspects of a competitive collegiate volleyball program. This includes overseeing athlete recruitment, coaching and training student-athletes, managing team logistics, ensuring compliance with institutional, NCAA, and conference regulations, and fostering a positive team culture. The coach is expected to build a successful program focused on athletic excellence, academic achievement, and personal development; to support the mission and core values of Tuskegee University and the Athletic Dept.
Essential Job Duties
- Organize, prepare, and conduct individual and team practices, training, and competition.
- Manage the recruiting/ Letters of Intent (signing) and official visits.
- Monitor the students’ class attendance, study hall, grades, commencement ceremonies and travel.
- Serve as a role model for student-athletes.
- Discipline, monitor personal appearance, conduct, image and general behavior of all student athletes.
- Recruit on/off campus and sign students for volleyball program.
- Supervise staff and students in the department, who are assigned to this program.
- Act as a consultant and schedules team travel, hotel, meals and etc.
- Evaluate athletes on physical condition and advises them on maintaining maximum physical fitness for participation in athletic competition.
- Serve as an expert in student athletes and educate them on issues affecting intercollegiate athletics.
- Assure that athletes maintain academic eligibility and records of participation are kept and forwarded to the proper agencies and authorities. Provide the maintenance and accountability of equipment (i.e. uniforms, field equipment).
Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training)
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Three or more years of coaching experience at a high school of collegiate level. Must have knowledge of NCAA rules.
Physical Demands
- May involve frequent bending, moving and lifting
- lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 50 pounds
- Standing for 4 hours or more per day
- Working in all weather conditions
- Exposure to high noise levels
- Physical involvement in all practices and workout with players
Skills and Attributes
Knowledge:
- Extensive knowledge of individual and team skills with the ability to teach these skills.
Skills:
- Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
Ability:
- Must be able to travel extensively.
