Job Summary
The Associate Vice President (AVP) for Resource Management provides strategic and operational leadership for the University’s financial management functions, ensuring the efficient, transparent, and compliant stewardship of institutional resources. This position oversees accounting operations, the bursar’s office, and fixed asset management, aligning financial systems and policies with the University’s mission, fiscal goals, and strategic priorities. The AVP serves as a senior advisor to the Chief Financial Officer and collaborates across academic and administrative divisions to strengthen fiscal accountability, improve operational efficiency, and enhance data-driven decision-making throughout the institution.
Essential Job Duties
- Provide executive oversight for Accounting, Bursar, and Fixed Assets functions, ensuring integrity and accuracy of all financial transactions, records, and reports.
- Direct the preparation of annual financial statements, reconciliations, and reports in accordance with GAAP, GASB, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and implement policies, internal controls, and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional standards.
- Partner with the Budget Office to align resource allocation and expenditure monitoring with institutional priorities.
- Lead initiatives to modernize and streamline financial systems, leveraging technology to enhance reporting accuracy, workflow efficiency, and service delivery.
- Collaborate with student financial services to support timely and compliant management of student accounts and tuition revenue.
- Oversee fixed asset accounting and inventory control, ensuring proper capitalization, depreciation, and audit compliance.
- Support the preparation for external audits, coordinating with auditors and internal teams to ensure timely resolution of findings.
- Analyze key financial indicators and trends to support executive decision-making and long-term fiscal planning.
- Provide leadership development, mentorship, and performance management for direct reports and their teams. Represent the Finance Division in institutional committees, task forces, and cross-functional projects.
Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training)
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in financial management, accounting, or resource administration — preferably in a higher education environment.
- Demonstrated leadership in managing diverse financial functions such as accounting, bursar operations, and asset management. Strong knowledge of GAAP, GASB, OMB Uniform Guidance, and higher-education financial reporting standards.
