Assistant/Associate Professor of Biology
Job Summary
We seek an exceptional scholar-teacher whose research and teaching interests complement and strengthen the department’s existing programs in cellular/molecular biology, microbiology, biotechnology, and biomedical sciences. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education, student mentorship, and high-quality scientific teaching. The successful candidate is expected to establish a vigorous, externally funded research program, contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching, and mentor students in both biology and computational methods.

Essential Job Duties
- Teaching assigned biology courses, including lectures and laboratories.
- Develop and teach upper-level electives aligned with the candidate’s expertise.
- Engaging in professional development and demonstrating a commitment to instructional excellence, student engagement, and lifelong learning.
- Incorporate research-based or inquiry-driven teaching approaches as appropriate to promote student engagement and success.
- Pursue intramural and extramural funding to support research activities.
- Conducting independent and collaborative projects, publishing findings in journals and conferences, securing external funding through grant writing, and mentoring graduate students.
- Advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, maintaining accessibility through office hours and electronic communication.
- Contributing to curriculum development and program assessment.
- Participating in departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings and submitting required reports.
- Maintaining professional relationships with students, colleagues, and administration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Developmental Biology, or a closely related discipline.
- Evidence of scholarly productivity (peer-reviewed publications).
- Demonstrated potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Evidence of, or strong potential for, securing external funding.
- Experience supervising undergraduate research.
- Proficiency with modern molecular, cellular, imaging, or computational techniques relevant to the position.
- Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration.
Physical Demands
- Ability to operate standard office equipment.
- Ability to walk short distances.
- Ability to prepare and analyze data and figures.
- Ability to view a computer terminal and engage in extensive reading.
