What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Foreman position at Turning Tides Tradesmen?
## Experienced Carpentry Foreman Wanted (Specializing in Framing, Roofing, Siding, Painting, and Flashing)
We're seeking a seasoned, hands-on Carpentry Foreman with proven expertise in **framing, roofing, siding installation, exterior/interior painting, and waterproof flashing** to lead our team on residential and commercial projects. As a Foreman, you'll actively participate in the work while overseeing site operations, managing crews, and delivering durable, weather-tight, high-quality carpentry finishes.
## Key Responsibilities
1. **Project Oversight**: Supervise carpentry sites, with emphasis on framing, roofing, siding, painting, and critical flashing details, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to precise specifications.
2. **Crew Management**: Lead and direct crew members, providing hands-on instruction and training in framing, roofing, siding application, painting techniques, and proper flashing installation to maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
3. **Quality Control**: Enforce rigorous standards—inspecting framing for structural integrity, roofing and flashing for watertight performance, siding for proper alignment and sealing, and paint finishes for durability and appearance.
4. **Safety Protocols**: Implement and enforce strict safety measures, especially for height work (roofing and flashing), ladder/scaffolding use (siding and painting), and material handling, in full compliance with company policies and industry standards.
5. **Communication**: Coordinate with project managers, clients, and subcontractors; accurately read and interpret blueprints with attention to flashing details and waterproofing requirements.
## Requirements
1. **Specialized Carpentry Expertise**: Extensive hands-on experience as a carpentry foreman or lead carpenter, with strong, demonstrable skills in **framing** (rough and finish), **roofing** (shingles, metal, etc.), **siding** (vinyl, fiber cement, wood), **painting** (prep, application, finishing), and **flashing** (roof-to-wall, window/door, chimney, valley, and penetration flashing using metal, membrane, or peel-and-stick systems).
2. **Flashing Proficiency**: Must be highly knowledgeable and skilled in proper flashing techniques and best practices to prevent water intrusion—critical for long-term building envelope performance.
3. **Hands-On Proficiency**: Fully capable and willing to perform all listed tasks yourself, including detailed flashing work, while leading and mentoring the crew.
4. **Leadership Skills**: Proven ability to motivate, train, and manage crews on multi-trade exterior projects.
5. **Communication Skills**: Strong verbal and written communication, including blueprint reading, flashing detail interpretation, and material planning.
6. **Problem-Solving**: Excellent troubleshooting skills, especially for water management issues related to flashing, roofing transitions, and siding integration.
7. **Certifications**: EPA RRP (lead-safe painting), roofing manufacturer, or building envelope/flashing-specific certifications a plus.
## What We Offer
1. **Competitive Salary**: Commensurate with experience and specialized flashing/roofing expertise.
2. **Growth Opportunities**: Clear path for advancement and continued training in advanced building science and waterproofing.
3. **Dynamic Work Environment**: Varied projects with a collaborative team focused on complete, high-performance exterior systems.
