What does a Maple Production & Forestry Operations Manager do?
- Effectively manages all facets of maple syrup production and operations; ensuring quality of all products.
- Continually monitors the tapping/tubing infrastructure; ensures infrastructure is properly maintained.
- Oversees the harvest of sap, production and bottling of the maple syrup. Consists of bringing sap from the woods to the sap house, processing the sap through the reverses osmosis machine and evaporator, filtering the syrup and then bottling the maple syrup for sale.
- Manages all sap house operations, including oversight of the sap house retail, inventory, and general upkeep and maintenance of the facility and its equipment.
- Ensures all operating and safety standards are met and staffing levels are maintained.
- Consistently establishes and maintains effective and efficient procedures and controls. Ensures adherence to procedures and controls by all employees.
- Effectively prepares annual budgets, operating forecasts, and other required departmental reports.
- Participates and supervises hiring and onboarding.
- Ensures that all areas within the operation are scheduled for maximum coverage during peak hours.
- Leads training, supervision, direction and oversight of employees including scheduling, shift assignments, and similar functions.
- Strategically plans and develops goals for operation as required by the grant funding.
- Constantly inspects maple trees ensuring that they are maintained in a healthy growing state.
- Develops and implements an ongoing tree care program based on tree and site specific needs.
- Manages all wholesale and retail operations, including but not limited to overseeing the processing and fulfillment of all customer orders, coordination with Supply Chain and Warehouse to ensure product is appropriately handled and distributed as needed to other Nation departments, oversight of product packaging and shipping coordination for third-party orders.
- Coordinates with the Marketing Department to create all marketing and sales-related collateral and website development.

Work Experience
To be successful as a Maple Production & Forestry Operations Manager, you'll need:
- Associate’s Degree in Agribusiness or related field preferred.
- At least 3 years of managing sugaring operation is required. Understands maple/food production process from inception to completion.
- Prior retail sales experience strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of current safety standards and regulations with regards to food production.
- Previous experience of proper pruning techniques and safety measures is required.
- Prior experience in sugaring maintenance practices and equipment/tubing repairs strongly preferred.
- Prior business or management experience preferred.
- Must be available to maintain a flexible schedule, particularly during the January – March sugaring season
- Must be able to operate trucks and light motorized equipment.
- Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to stand/walk for long periods of time and lift up to 51 - 60 pounds.
