Position: Domestic Violence Adult Advocate
Location: Woodstock, IL
Pay Range: $22-26/hour base pay. $1/hour differential for bilingual Spanish.
Schedule is flexible between the hours of Mon-Thursday 9 am - 7 pm and Friday 9 am - 1 pm. Some evening hours (until 7:00 pm) required.

About Us:
As a mid-sized nonprofit with a team of more than 50 professionals, Turning Point is proud to provide comprehensive domestic violence services to McHenry County. We are seeking a motivated individual to join our team and make a difference in the lives of survivors.
Position Summary:
The Adult Domestic Violence Advocate is responsible for providing crisis intervention, counseling, and advocacy services to adult victims of domestic violence, with a specialized focus on expressive arts programming. This role blends traditional advocacy with creative modalities such as art, movement, music, or writing to support survivors in their healing journey. In addition to individual and group sessions, the advocate offers in-house on-call crisis support and maintains accurate and timely client records. The counselor works collaboratively with agency staff and community partners to ensure holistic, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive services. This position requires ongoing self-care, active participation in professional development, and involvement in training, meetings, and program development. Other duties may be assigned as needed to support program goals and client care.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Provide intake, assessment, and supportive counseling to adult survivors of domestic violence.
2. Lead or co-facilitate adult support groups, parenting groups, and trauma-informed workshops that integrate creative expression.
3. Offer systems and legal advocacy, including referrals, case management, and support navigating the court or social service systems.
4. Provide in-house and after-hours on-call crisis intervention on a rotating basis.
5. Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including client records, service logs, and program notes.
6. Collaborate with internal team members and external providers to ensure coordinated, culturally responsive services.
7. Assist with economic empowerment education, safety planning, and individualized goal setting for clients.
8. Help maintain and organize expressive arts materials, group spaces, and program structure.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required in a social service or related field.
- A Master’s degree is welcomed, but not required.
Minimum 1–2 years of experience working with survivors of domestic violence, trauma, or in a related social service setting preferred.
Comfort and competence in providing group facilitation and individual counseling using trauma-informed, strengths-based approaches.
Knowledge of domestic violence dynamics, trauma-informed care, cultural humility, and systems advocacy - preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and a compassionate, nonjudgmental approach.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Must complete or have completed the 40-hour Domestic Violence Training (can be completed upon hire)..
