Position Overview
The Project Accountant plays a key role in supporting project-level financial performance. This position works closely with project managers, field leadership, and the accounting team to ensure timely, accurate reporting, compliance with company standards, and clear visibility into project financial health.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor, track, and report financial performance for assigned projects
Prepare monthly project financial statements, cost reports, and variance analyses
Review and validate project expenses, labor hours, equipment costs, and subcontractor invoices
Work with project managers to update budgets, forecasts, and cost-to-complete calculations
Assist in revenue recognition, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, and project closeouts
Ensure proper coding and documentation of project-related expenses
Support billing processes, including contract billing, progress billings, and change orders
Maintain compliance with internal controls and company accounting policies
Coordinate with Accounts Payable and Payroll to resolve discrepancies
Provide audit support and project documentation as required
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
2 years of accounting experience; project accounting experience preferred
Experience in construction, mining, or similar project-based industries is a plus
Strong understanding of GAAP and cost accounting principles
Proficient with accounting software and advanced Excel skills
High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams
Ability to analyze data, identify issues, and recommend solutions
