Staff Accountant

Cornerstone Advisory Group

Cornerstone Advisory Group is a third-generation, family-owned firm with over 60 years of expertise. We specialize in helping small business owners, entrepreneurs, and individuals unlock the power of tax-smart financial planning. Backed by an in-house tax team, we’re dedicated to providing personalized, proactive guidance to help our clients achieve their financial goals.

Our accounting and tax team plays an important role in that process, providing bookkeeping, accounting, tax preparation, and tax planning services while working closely with our financial planning team. This collaborative approach gives our team the opportunity to understand the full picture of a client’s finances.

Position Overview

As a Staff Accountant at Cornerstone Advisory Group, you’ll play a critical role in serving our clients through tax preparation, accounting, bookkeeping, and tax planning. This role combines strong technical accounting skills with a client-focused approach to help clients make informed financial decisions and achieve their personal and business goals.

You’ll collaborate closely with our tax and financial planning teams to gain a broader understanding of each client’s financial picture. Over time, you’ll take on increased responsibility for client relationships, tax and accounting engagements, business consulting, and identifying opportunities to provide proactive guidance.

Success in this role is defined by producing accurate, high-quality work, building strong client relationships, identifying opportunities to add value, and contributing to the firm’s ability to provide integrated tax and financial guidance.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare, review, and file accurate and timely federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals and businesses.
  • Participate in client meetings and provide clear, professional guidance on accounting, tax, and business-related matters.
  • Work with clients to gather information, answer questions, and provide responsive support throughout the tax and accounting process.
  • Assist with tax planning and advisory engagements by identifying tax-saving opportunities and developing proactive strategies tailored to each client’s situation.
  • Perform bookkeeping and sales tax-related work, including maintaining accurate and well-organized financial records.
  • Assist with the preparation and analysis of financial statements and other financial information.
  • Review client financial information to identify issues, opportunities, and areas where additional accounting or tax guidance may be beneficial.
  • Collaborate with our financial planning team to provide a more complete view of the client’s financial picture and refer clients who may benefit from financial planning or investment advisory services.
  • Support and mentor other accountants and team members as needed, sharing knowledge and helping maintain consistent quality across the team.
  • Stay current on changes in tax laws, accounting standards, and industry practices.
  • Maintain required professional licenses and complete continuing education (CE) requirements.

What You Should Bring to the Table

Experience: 2 years of relevant accounting and/or tax experience preferred

Education: Bachelor’s degree required in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Skills:

  • Experience preparing individual and business tax returns, with a solid understanding of federal and state tax concepts.
  • Strong accounting fundamentals and the ability to analyze financial information, identify issues, and think beyond the numbers.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple client engagements and deadlines.
  • Professional, personable communication skills and the ability to build trust with clients and work effectively with team members.
  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset and a willingness to ask questions, learn, and take ownership of your work.
  • The ability to explain accounting and tax concepts clearly to clients and colleagues.
  • A desire to grow professionally and expand your knowledge of tax, accounting, and financial planning.
  • An active CPA or EA credential, or a willingness to pursue one, is preferred but not required.
