  • Committed to animal husbandry with the understanding that this is NOT a 9-5 job. Work on weekends is common. Animals eat every day and things go haywire after hours and on weekends. They work hard for us, and we owe them the same. We will work until the job is done

  • This is a manual labor ranch job that happens to include livestock and those happen to be buffalo. We are looking for a grounded, hard-working and practical team member. 

JOB PURPOSE

As a Ranch Technician, your primary duties will be grazing management, animal movement and processing, and infrastructure development and maintenance. You will assist in managing livestock using adaptive grazing practices. The ability and skills to use ATVs/UTVs to perform ranch work, including moving animals, is required. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Moving/Handling animals in the pasture and corrals using low stress techniques on foot, ATV or UTV. Tools also include temporary electric fence and grazing apps  
  • Animal Husbandry to include assisting in the preparation of pastures (fences, water systems, forage inventory), feeding (hay, cake, salt, and mineral) and vaccinating livestock 
  • Safely operating and maintaining farm, construction and shop equipment 
  • Developing and maintaining corrals, ranch buildings, fencing, water and other ranch infrastructure 
  • Embrace a safety-minded culture to include safe operation of vehicles, equipment, and ATVs/UTVs
  • Handling reporting on grazing, feed, fuel and maintenance logs, projects and conservation efforts
  • All other duties as assigned

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

Essential:

  • Experience in livestock production agriculture, 1-2 years. 
  • Experience in a manual labor field, 1-2 years, that included long hours, exposure to the elements, working with your hands and required mechanical aptitude. 
  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) 
  • Basic computer skills, including preparation of reports and spreadsheets 
  • This position requires the operation of vehicles, and you need to possess a valid driver’s license or be able to obtain one within 30 days of employment. Your driving record will need to meet the standards and requirements of the Company and the Company’s insurance provider
  • You will need to present documentation establishing both identity and employment authorization within three days of hire pursuant to federal law

Preferred:

  • Experience in low-stress animal handling
  • Experience with adaptive multi-paddock grazing using temporary electric fence
  • Experience operating heavy equipment

ACCOMMODATIONS

On-ranch, single-family housing with basic utilities (power, water, propane, Wi-Fi) will be provided subject to a Company Housing Agreement and Company policies. 


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

On a regular basis, you can expect to:

  • Stand; sit; walk; move hands & fingers; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; & talk or hear. 
  • Lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Perform physical labor for extended periods of time.

On a frequent basis, you can expect to:

  • Ride an ATV/UTV for extended periods of time on uneven, rough terrain and occasionally on roads and flat terrain while performing ranch duties. 
  • Climb ladders and pipe corrals 
  • Lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. 

On an occasional basis, you can expect to lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. 

 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. 


You will regularly be exposed to moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. You will frequently be exposed to high, precarious places and fumes or airborne particles. You will occasionally be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
