Senior Revenue Accountant

A well-established mission-driven organization based in Arlington, VA is seeking a Senior Revenue Accountant to join its growing accounting team. This role will oversee revenue recognition, accounts receivable operations, and intercompany accounting while ensuring compliance with US GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards. The position will also play a key role in mentoring AR staff and helping improve accounting processes across a multi-entity environment.

Responsibilities

Revenue Accounting

• Oversee revenue recognition for contributions, pledges, and earned income in accordance with US GAAP and nonprofit standards.
• Review and approve complex transactions under ASC 606 and ASC 958.
• Maintain and update accounting policies related to revenue recognition.
• Collaborate with financial reporting teams to ensure accurate disclosures and reconciliations.

Accounts Receivable Oversight

• Support and mentor the accounts receivable team to ensure timely and accurate recording of cash receipts, pledges, and invoices.
• Oversee invoicing and collections processes.
• Design and implement scalable AR procedures and process improvements.
• Validate donor documentation and maintain pledge tracking processes.

Intercompany Accounting

• Manage the intercompany invoicing process across multiple entities.
• Reconcile intercompany balances monthly and resolve discrepancies.
• Maintain proper documentation for intercompany transactions.

Controls and Compliance

• Maintain strong internal controls over revenue, receivables, and intercompany transactions.
• Prepare audit schedules and support external audit processes.
• Ensure adherence to internal policies and regulatory requirements.

Team Development

• Mentor and develop AR staff while promoting a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
• Encourage cross-functional collaboration and proactive problem solving.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
• 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP, including revenue recognition standards (ASC 606).
• Experience with accounts receivable and revenue accounting.
• Experience with intercompany accounting and reconciliations in a multi-entity environment.
• Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in nonprofit organizations.
• Familiarity with ASC 958 and pledge accounting.
• Experience improving processes and leveraging technology to automate accounting workflows.
• Experience with accounting systems such as Sage Intacct, Salesforce, Concur, or FloQast.
