Manufacturing Test Engineer to define and drive the test strategy across a product line scaling from prototype builds toward high-volume manufacturing. This is a senior technical leadership role — you'll own the test architecture from concept through volume, set the standards and frameworks that guide the broader test and manufacturing engineering team, and build the organizational capability to execute complex test operations at scale. You sit at the seam between validation and production — creating clarity on what gets tested, how, and why, and ensuring the test infrastructure evolves in lockstep with the product and the production system.
The ideal candidate brings 5 years of experience designing, deploying, and scaling manufacturing test systems for complex electromechanical products — including hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, in-line functional test, and parametric data collection. You should have a track record of standing up test operations from scratch, driving multi-generational test strategy across product iterations, and influencing product architecture decisions to improve testability. This role demands strategic thinking, deep technical credibility, and the ability to align cross-functional teams — engineering, validation, software, manufacturing, and quality — around a unified test philosophy that scales.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and own the end-to-end manufacturing test strategy across product builds, from early prototype and NPI through volume production. Determine what is tested, where testing occurs, and the appropriate balance between in-line, end-of-line, and sampling approaches.
- Develop the long-term manufacturing test roadmap, including test architecture, tooling, equipment, and investment needs.
- Partner with engineering teams early in the design process to improve product testability and incorporate Design for Test (DFT) principles into product architecture, interfaces, and tolerance decisions.
- Establish manufacturing test frameworks, standards, readiness criteria, and decision-making processes for each stage of the product lifecycle.
- Partner with Engineering, Validation, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to translate validation requirements into scalable production test strategies.
- Define test data structures, traceability requirements, pass/fail logic, and reporting standards that support dashboarding and real-time production visibility.
- Design and deploy manufacturing test systems, including electromechanical subassembly testing, HIL systems, in-line functional and parametric testing, and end-of-line acceptance testing.
- Develop operator-friendly test stations with intuitive workflows, clear pass/fail criteria, guided troubleshooting, and supporting work instructions.
- Specify and procure test equipment and instrumentation, including DAQ hardware, sensors, power supplies, electronic loads, motion controllers, and communication interfaces such as CAN, EtherCAT, SPI, and UART.
- Scale test solutions from engineering-supported stations to repeatable, operator-run systems that can be deployed across production lines and sites.
- Analyze manufacturing test data to identify trends, investigate failures, support root-cause analysis, and drive improvements in product design, manufacturing processes, and quality.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to the development of strong test engineering practices, technical rigor, and operational excellence across the team.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 10 years of manufacturing test engineering experience supporting electromechanical or robotic products.
- Experience across both NPI/prototype and high-volume production environments.
- Experience owning manufacturing test strategy for a new product from concept through volume production.
- Hands-on experience developing and deploying in-line and end-of-line functional test systems, including test sequences, pass/fail criteria, and parametric/SPC data collection.
- Proficiency with test software and automation tools such as LabVIEW, NI TestStand, Python, or similar custom test frameworks.
- Experience specifying and integrating DAQ systems, instrumentation, and test equipment.
- Experience developing structured test-data pipelines, schemas, and traceability frameworks for dashboarding and analytics.
- Demonstrated ability to develop test strategies and frameworks in ambiguous or evolving environments.
- Strong cross-functional communication skills with the ability to influence Engineering, Validation, Quality, and Manufacturing stakeholders at a senior level.
