Job Description

This is a 1-year hybrid W-2 contract supporting a leading organization in the insurance industry. The role is based in Jacksonville, Florida, with on-site presence required as part of the hybrid schedule.

A Hadoop Developer is responsible for the design, development, and operation of systems used to store and manage large-scale data. Professionals in this role typically have backgrounds in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or mathematics.

IT Developers contribute to development, programming, and coding of IT solutions. Responsibilities include documenting detailed technical specifications, participating in unit testing, maintaining internally developed applications, and evaluating vendor products. Developers must also ensure IT controls are followed to maintain the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of applications and data.


Essential Functions

  • Write code for moderately complex, multi-platform system designs.
  • Develop new programs and enhance existing applications.
  • Review code developed by peers and provide feedback.
  • Contribute to programming standards and best practices.
  • Write detailed technical specifications and identify integration points.
  • Identify missing elements in system/functional requirements and communicate impacts.
  • Collaborate with IT Developers, Business Analysts, System Analysts, Project Managers, and vendors.
  • Estimate time and resources required for programming tasks; participate in review of estimates.
  • Perform unit testing and debugging; establish test conditions based on specifications.
  • Support application transitions through the product development lifecycle; document migration requirements.
  • Research vendor products and conduct gap analyses.
  • Ensure IT controls and corporate standards are followed to protect application/data integrity.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


Job Requirements

  • Experience with unit testing, release procedures, coding design, documentation standards, and change management.
  • Proficiency with version control tools.
  • Strong understanding of IT fields and computer systems.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks.
  • Ability to accept feedback and apply improvements.
  • Strong initiative and decision-making capabilities.
  • Clear communication of technical information.
  • Ability to adapt to fast-changing environments.
  • Strong knowledge of the systems development life cycle (SDLC).
  • Proficiency in multiple object-oriented programming languages.
  • Proficiency with MS Office tools and flowcharting applications (e.g., Visio).
  • Skilled with debugging tools.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
