Clients Manufacturing Services is an internal fortune 500 company service specializing in the production of high-quality components through additive manufacturing (3D printing), CNC machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication, powder coating, and assembly. We serve design engineers, product developers, operations engineers, and retail product concept testing teams across the company.


About the Role:

  • AMS seeks a CNC Setup Machinist to perform advanced machine setups, write and modify CNC programs, and operate CNC machines to produce precision machined parts.
  • You will set up machines for production runs, optimize programs, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure high-quality machined components.
  • This role requires strong technical expertise, CNC programming skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.


Key Responsibilities:

Advanced Machine Setup and Operation:

  • Set up, load, and operate CNC machines according to job specifications
  • Perform complex machine setups for production runs
  • Set up fixturing using standard fixture hardware
  • Design custom fixtures for specialized machining operations
  • Calibrate machines and verify setup accuracy before production
  • Operate equipment and monitor production to ensure quality and efficiency
  • Perform first article inspections and verify dimensional accuracyCNC Programming and Optimization
  • Write and modify CNC programs using G-code or CAM software
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints to ensure accurate machining
  • Optimize cutting parameters, feed rates, and tool paths to improve cycle times
  • Troubleshoot programming errors and make real-time adjustments
  • Work with the team on keeping machine templates up to date
  • Maintain a clean digital file archive


Technical Problem-Solving and Optimization:

  • Monitor machine operations to detect and address any issues or deviations
  • Troubleshoot machine issues and programming errors
  • Identify and resolve quality problems related to setup and operation
  • Make real-time adjustments to programs and machine parameters
  • Recommend process improvements to reduce setup time and increase throughput


Quality Control and Inspection:

  • Conduct quality checks and measurements to ensure parts meet required specifications
  • Verify parts meet engineering drawings and GD&T specifications using precision measuring equipment
  • Use measuring equipment including calipers, micrometers, and other inspection tools
  • Perform in-process inspections and quality verification
  • Document quality issues and work with quality team on corrective actions


Equipment Maintenance and Care:

  • Perform routine maintenance on CNC machines to ensure optimal performance
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues
  • Replace cutting tools and consumables as needed
  • Maintain equipment calibration and accuracy
  • Coordinate with maintenance team on major repairs and upgrades
  • Keep detailed maintenance logs and equipment records


Mentorship and Training:

  • Provide guidance to CNC Operators on machine operation and troubleshooting
  • Share technical knowledge and process improvements with team members
  • Support continuous improvement culture through knowledge transfer
  • Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced machinists


Work Area Organization:

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Enforce 5S standards in machining area
  • Organize tools, fixtures, and materials efficiently
  • Maintain digital file organization and documentation


Required qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5 years of CNC machine operation and programming experience (industry or technical college experience acceptable)
  • Strong knowledge of G-code and CAM software
  • Strong attention to detail and precision
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and GD&T
  • Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to set up fixturing using standard fixture hardware
  • Ability to design custom fixtures
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced machinists


Preferred skills:

  • 7 years of CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Technical certification or associate degree in machining or related field
  • Advanced knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
  • Experience with CAM software (Mastercam, ESPRIT, or similar)
  • Experience with multiple CNC machine types (mills, lathes, multi-axis)
  • Experience in contract manufacturing or high-mix production environments
  • Knowledge of fixture design and tooling optimization
  • Six Sigma or Lean manufacturing training
  • Forklift certification

This posting is for a contract assignment with Tundra Technical Solutions to provide services to Client.


The pay range that Tundra in good faith reasonably expects to pay for this position is $36.17/hour - $40.99/hour.
