What are the responsibilities and job description for the Group Exercise Instructor position at Tulare Local Healthcare District?

Position Summary:
The Group Exercise Instructor is responsible for providing professional fitness classes to members and clients of the District’s fitness center (“Center”).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential job functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Develop fun, effective, and efficient exercise programs that offer variety and meet the specific needs of the Center’s members.
· Maintain the safety, health, and welfare of the Center’s members.
· Provide only professional activities that fall within boundaries of employee’s professional competencies and credentials.
· Perform thorough fitness assessments on all members.
· Teach safe and effective exercises to suit members’ needs.
· Provide members with knowledge, skills, guidance, support, motivation, and educational resources.
· Maintain knowledge of all utilized fitness equipment and proper form for use.
· Work with members to answer questions and concerns and provide necessary instruction.
· Help maintain a safe and clean Center including, but not limited to, daily cleaning of fitness equipment to ensure cleanliness standards are met.
· Complete quality checks on all fitness equipment during each shift.
· Assist in promoting and participating in member activities and membership sales events.
· Participate in departmental and staff meetings as scheduled.
· Demonstrate complete knowledge of emergency and safety procedures.
· Maintain knowledge of the Center and its staff, services, fees, and hours of operation.
· Contribute to the growth of the training programs offered at the Center and execute on the provision of offered programs.
· Exhibit civility, cooperation, and professional behavior with all persons.
· Support and promote the mission, vision, and values of the District.
· Communicate effectively with other employees, management, members, and other third-parties.
· Follow all applicable District policies and procedures.
· Receive and follow instructions from supervisors and management.
· Complete continuing education and training as directed by management.
· Perform all other reasonable duties as assigned in the future.
Prerequisites and Skills:
The following are mandatory prerequisites to obtaining the Fitness Associate position:
· High School Diploma or equivalent.
· Two years’ fitness experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· CPR/AED and Fitness First Aid Certified (to be obtained within 30 days of hire and kept in good standing thereafter).
· Education and Experience necessary for specific training.
· Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
· High attention to detail.
· Ability to exercise discretion and self-motivated.
· Basic computer skills, including word processing.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Possesses basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply and divide).
· Ability to work in team environment.
· Ability to understand and follow safety procedures and safely use District equipment.
The following are preferred prerequisites to obtaining the Fitness Associate position:
· Degree in Health or Fitness related filed, preferred.
· Personal Training national certification, preferred.
Compensation and Benefits:
This is a non-exempt position. The hourly rate of pay will be dependent upon the level of experience and other bona fide factors. The District is committed to paying individuals equal pay for substantially similar work, when viewed as a composite of skills, effort, and responsibility, and which work is performed under similar working conditions. The position will include the standard District benefits package, which will vary depending on whether the employee is designated as Full-Time or Part-Time.
