What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager, 3-D Art Shop position at Tulane University?
The 3D Shop Manager will assist all students and faculty in the training, use and oversight of digital fabrication, woodshop, and metal-working areas. Candidate must be facile with traditional woodworking equipment, digital fabrication processes, and metal fabrication. The 3D Shop Manager will have an office in the General Fabrication Lab which houses a laser cutter, CNC router, and 3D printer as well as woodworking tools. The Manager's primary responsibility will be the General Fabrication Lab and will serve as support staff in the Sculpture Studio, housing metal fabrication equipment, including a slip roller, shear, and brake along with MIG welders.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesWorking knowledge of digital fabrications, metal and woodworking tools and processes
Working knowledge of design and tool-pathing software required along with the Adobe Suite
Ability to handle multiple students and projects in a shop setting
Ability to lift up to 70lbs
Ability to assist envisioning ongoing future development of shops as fabrication spaces in consultation with Department faculty
Ability to interview, train and supervise all work-study students
Ability to train all students, faculty, and staff using the shop and host safety orientations
Ability to maintain and update all OSHA/HAZMAT documents pertaining to the shops and overall site
Ability to perform regular maintenance of furniture, studio materials organization, inventorying of classroom equipment and materials including the scheduled ordering of consumables such as blades, bits, and welding gas
Ability to keep record of all required tools, materials and services necessary for the functioning of the shops
Ability to assist with ordering, pick-up, and delivery of necessary sculpture materials
Ability to coordinate with Fine Art administration to develop and hold to an annual budget for the shops
Ability to perform general maintenance, construction, and fabrication as assigned by the Department
Ability to act as shop liaison with the Department and faculty to coordinate and ensure responsiveness to all curricular needs
Ability to supervise and assist as needed in preparing curricular-based demonstrations
Ability to act as liaison for requests outside of the Department
Ability to participate in all shop renovations
Ability to assist the department in coordination and set-up for special events including technical workshops
Bachelor's degree in related field
One year of supervisory experience in an educational or studio/shop environment
Experience with scheduled upkeep of laser cutters, CNC routers, and 3D printers
Master's degree in sculpture or related field
