The Department of Urology at Tulane University School of Medicine, is seeking a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible urologic oncologist to join our full-time faculty. Our department operates as a tertiary care practice located in downtown New Orleans and adjacent Metairie.
Purpose
The purpose of this recruitment is to expand our urologic oncology practice, facilitate clinical trials in urologic oncology, support the educational needs of our residents, and maintain competitiveness in the New Orleans market for the management of urologic oncology patients.
Position Overview
The faculty member will have an appointment as an Assistant or Associate Professor at Tulane University School of Medicine. The position involves clinical practice at University Medical Center (Downtown New Orleans) and East Jefferson Hospital (in the nearby suburb of Metairie). The candidate is expected to have expertise in urologic oncology and the ability to perform complex open and minimally invasive (i.e., robotic) surgical procedures for patients diagnosed with genitourinary malignancy. The ideal candidate is expected to be a clinician-scholar who participates in clinical and translational research. Additionally, there is an opportunity for basic science research collaboration with laboratories housed within Tulane’s Urology Department.
Practice Environment
Selected candidates will be part of an expanding medical practice that includes LCMC’s flagship hospital, East Jefferson General Hospital, and the state-owned University Medical Center, with possible additional opportunities at the New Orleans VA Medical Center.
Academic Appointment
The academic appointment will be through the Tulane University School of Medicine. This is a unique opportunity to establish a clinical practice while contributing to the training of urology residents and fellows, educating medical students, and participating in research and scholarly activities. Applicants should be eligible for a Louisiana medical license. Candidates must also be fully credentialed at Tulane University Hospital prior to the start date.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include maintaining an outpatient and surgical practice at East Jefferson Hospital, managing the urology service there, handling emergency room consultations, and being an integral part of the new urology clinic being established; and participating in the practice’s coverage of University Medical Center, including on-call responsibilities for the emergency department and in-patient consultations shared by the faculty.
