What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fleet & Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Senior (Effective 2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR) position at Tucson Unified District?
SUMMARY
Repairs and maintains light, medium and heavy vehicles. This classification is distinguished from the Fleet and Heavy Equipment Mechanic I position in that this position is able to perform all functions with no instruction or assistance from supervisor, and is able to help instruct/assist the Fleet Heavy Equipment Mechanic I as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Five years of skilled automotive (mechanical and electrical) repair experience required AND
Four (4) Automotive Services Excellence (ASE) certificates
High School diploma or GED
Valid Arizona Driver’s license
Verbal & written communication skills in English and a demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Arizona Dept. Environmental Quality (ADEQ) emissions testing certification, ASE Electrical, Air conditioning services, Diesel and Non-Diesel certificates desirable.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AFTER HIRE
FBI fingerprint background check.
Proof of immunity to rubeola (measles) and rubella (German measles), or proof of MMR immunization.
Post-offer/pre-employment lift test.
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), with Air Brake, within 10 days of hire.
MVReport – showing no more than the allowable points against Driver’s License as described under Governing Board Policy: EEB-R-1 Business and Personnel Transportation Services - Transportation by Employees.
ADOT (Arizona Dept. of Transportation) Medical Certificate and ADEQ emissions (non-diesel and diesel) testing certificate required within 180 days after hire
Minimum of two (2) ASE School Bus certifications attained within 1 year of hire

FTE: 1.0 – 8 hours per day
Work Calendar: 12 month
Positions less than 30 hours per week are not eligible for district benefits.
