General Superintendent

Tucson Asphalt Contractors is looking for an experienced General Superintendent to help lead our field operations and develop the next generation of leaders at TAC.

This isn’t a position for someone who wants to manage from the sidelines. We’re looking for a proven construction leader who understands asphalt paving, paving maintenance, concrete, people, production, and accountability—and knows how to bring all of those pieces together.

The right person will lead and support our Superintendents and Foremen, maintain visibility across our projects, and take an active role in production, man-hours, trucking, equipment utilization, scheduling, quantities, and downtime. This leader should understand how decisions made in the field impact job costs and profitability—and know when to adjust manpower, equipment, trucking, or the plan to keep work moving efficiently.

We’re looking for someone who doesn’t just ask, “Did we get the job done?” but also asks, “Did we accomplish what we planned? Did we hit our production goals? How did our man-hours perform? Were our trucks and equipment utilized efficiently? If not, why—and what are we changing tomorrow?”

Key Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and accountability to Superintendents, Foremen, and field crews.
• Maintain active visibility across TAC’s asphalt paving, paving maintenance, and concrete projects and understand the status, challenges, and priorities of each.
• Coordinate manpower, equipment, and resources across paving, paving maintenance, and concrete operations.
• Review upcoming schedules and backlog to ensure projects are properly staffed, equipped, and prepared.
• Work closely with Project Managers to ensure field execution aligns with scope, schedule, budget, and client expectations.
• Monitor production, quantities, labor, equipment utilization, downtime, and overall project performance.
• Identify problems early and drive solutions rather than allowing issues to carry forward.
• Ensure Superintendents and Foremen are planning their work and asking daily: “Did we accomplish what we planned? If not, why not, and what are we changing tomorrow?”
• Reinforce TAC’s safety expectations and ensure required field documentation, training, and corrective actions are completed.
• Hold field leadership accountable for quality workmanship and complete project closeout.
• Develop Superintendents and Foremen through coaching, performance reviews, clear expectations, and succession planning.
• Build a culture of professionalism and accountability while maintaining appropriate leadership boundaries with field employees.
• Communicate openly and consistently with management regarding field performance, staffing needs, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
