Supplier Quality Engineer
Location: San Diego, California (on-site)
Salary: $120,000-165,000 / year
About the Opportunity
An industry-leading manufacturer is seeking a highly motivated Supplier Quality Engineer to join its Supply Chain Quality team. This role is responsible for ensuring supplier compliance, qualifying production parts, improving supplier performance, and driving quality excellence throughout the supply chain.
The ideal candidate will bring experience in manufacturing, machining, CNC programming, investment casting, quality engineering, or supplier development and have a passion for continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Review supplier-provided quality documentation and data to verify compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and contractual requirements.
- Evaluate and qualify production parts and manufacturing processes to ensure consistent quality performance.
- Monitor supplier quality metrics, defect rates, and performance trends; generate reports and drive corrective actions.
- Lead supplier investigations and root cause analyses related to nonconforming material and quality escapes.
- Conduct supplier audits and assessments to evaluate manufacturing processes, quality systems, and compliance with industry standards.
- Support supplier development initiatives through process improvements, quality planning, and implementation of process controls.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Supplier teams to resolve quality concerns and improve product performance.
- Assist suppliers in developing and implementing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Participate in supplier qualification, certification, and ongoing performance evaluation activities.
- Ensure supplier compliance with applicable quality certifications and standards, including ISO and NADCAP requirements where applicable.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in supplier quality, quality engineering, manufacturing engineering, or related technical roles.
- Experience qualifying production parts and manufacturing processes.
- Strong understanding of quality systems, inspection methods, engineering drawings, and manufacturing processes.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in one or more of the following:
- CNC Programming
- Precision Machining
- Investment Casting
- Quality Engineering
Knowledge of industry standards and specifications including:
- SAE
- ASTM
- MIL Specifications
Experience with:
- Supplier audits and assessments
- Root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Continuous improvement initiatives
- Production Part Approval Processes (PPAP) or equivalent qualification methodologies
- ISO and/or NADCAP quality systems
